Anyone have experience using RJ45 cables in lengths around 125-150 feet? any problems? Cisco says 100m (328 feet) is the max (and I trust their judgement) But I need to know if I will experience a higher rate of lost packets/ signal drop at this length. If I can use this length without a repeater/booster I will be back online full time again....even if it is ADSL @ 2mb  dry

I miss my 10mb Cable  Sad

As long as you use decent quality CAT5e cable, and keep your cable runs away from electrical cables wherever possible, it should work just fine. If you are going to be making the cables yourself, try and leave as much of the cable twisted as possible where it enters the plug. It is remarkable just how much interference can occur in the untwisted portion.

You could also stick a powered hub or a switch at the end of the 100m run then take your last 50m off another port to the client, they're pretty cheap (£25?).
If you also use thinner gauge Cat5 you'll minimise the attenuation on the line, so go for 22 gauge.  smile

The distance stated in the original post was 125-150 feet, not metres. Over that sort of distance a hub or repeater would be wasted.  Wink
