So, 1 year ago the former dictator of iraq died.
good thing or bad?

i think bad.
the war on iraq was a total mistake.
the people of iraq didn't have it really good under saddam, but now they are in a worse state.
i have 2 iraqi collegues who say people had a better life under the reign of saddam. of course they had restrictions and lived in a form of fear, but at least it was "safe" and they had water and education.

the country is in shambles.....and i also think killing a dictator after capture is stupid.

He controlled the masses through fear...but at least there was some control.

I dislike the fact that we were led to war in Iraq by a lie. I don't think we should have been there at all. We have drawn the terrorists out of the wood work and kept them busy killing American's in another country. That's all we've done. Not to mention bringing their wrath down on the Iraqi's also. By doing all this we have also put Iran in to play as a controller in the region, letting them dump there intolerant teachings from their Shia clerics and Mullah's. We have caused a huge mess and I only hope they can bring peace for themselves. It will not be the total democracy that the West wants (bobblehead Bush). Their society and religious beliefs simply aren't structured that way. Now we have to sit through civil war and let them figure it out for themselves. As far as SoDamn Insane, he's better off dead. I just wish they had carried out his death with a bit more tact.

It's the Saudi's we need to be keeping an eye on anyway, they see themselves as defenders of the faith, some of their clerics are extremist crackpots and they have access to a massive amount of funds to spread their views around the world. (It's no coincidence that Osama is a Saudi..as were most of the 9-11 hijackers)

How does the Iraqi invasion figure against a backdrop where the US administration at the time may have preferred to punish the Saudi's?
Was Iraq a chance to practice how they would deal with a fundamentalist coup de tat in Saudi Arabia (I.E. How quickly can we secure the oil production facilities and keep the stuff flowing)?

Here is where I disagree. Some of the Saudi's are our W's best friends.Kissy Fuck all knows they've been to the Whitehouse to visit daddy Bush and little Bush. At one time they even financed a business adventure for W. Here's your money, you incompetent fuck...errr...excuse me, Mr. Bushjr. We are essentially their standing military anyways.Military. Missiles. Wouldn't take too much to do it, just point the guns inward instead of outward. Won't happen though. It's too profitable for us. We've protected them for too long anyways. 'Sides, Britain's been mixed in with them a little also. I'll be so fecking glad to git rid of Bush this year.

I still think that there may be an element of 'this is what you can expect if you depose the Saudi Royals' in the Iraqi invasion...
..basically we'll fuck your country over and secure your oil fields if you don't play ball.  tongue2

I think Russia and China may have a whole lot to say about that. China should be able to put the fear of God in anyone. They multiply like rabbits. Let's not forget India either. We're talking about three countries with nuclear power with in very close range who would not take very kindly to an invasion of that sort. Of course, Iran can go feck itself. The only true power they have is over the people with their fanatical Islamist B.S. IMO. Which, granted is a very strong power with them blowing theirselves and everyone else up too, but it's not a nuclear power. Yet.

P.S.Thank feck we didn't find a reason to give them nuclear power like we did to India and Israel.

P.S.S. I do sincerely hope you're wrong there Wooster. Wink Remember, less than 12 months to go before we put our foot in Bush's arse.

Another thing! Wink If they didn't have oil, don't you think someone would of turned them into pretty shades of glass bt now. TBH, they have seriously offended a whole lot of countries.

Bush being near the end of his term is the reason an Iran invasion will occur, not the reason it won't because of the change of office.

An abysmal war is not what he wants remembered for, he will confer with his Israeli allies and a plan will hatch that makes the Israelis look like the ones kicking it off, he will then use the excuse to (by whatever plan the come up with) to invade Iran and be remembered as a conquering president for the good of the people. Regardless if the people see through him or not, he's a mad man and in his head that's how it is imo.
