Do you guys vote by pulling levers or something rather than a ballot box ?

We use touch screen in our local precinct. We live in a big money, big capitalism Republican state. I will still vote.

I never know what type of voting machine I will find when I walk into the polling center.

This year it was an optical scanner where you colored in the dots.

4 years ago it was touch screen

8 years ago it was a punch card (Al Gore missed getting Floridas electorial votes by 536 votes) If you remember that election it was all about the "hanging chad"

12 years ago if memory serves me it was an optical scanner

The lever machines are still used in some places - New York City still uses them in places.

Fascinating  Cool (no sarcasm intended btw)

We still use the old 'X' for the candidate you want.

A year or two ago in Scotland they tried a new system of rating in preference from one through three I think it was for a first time tried proportional representation vote and the amount of wasted ballot papers was huge.
I got the gist of it but did have to think about it (and it's not as if you can ask for help in a ballot booth, rules of the secret ballot) so I could sure understand why the older folks who had been used to just one 'X' for one candidate were getting it all wrong (and not just older folks I suppose).

What caused the problem there was that they held the Local Authority and Scottish Parliamentary elections in the one day using two different systems (you had a first and second (PR) choice of candidates for the Scottish Parliament and a choice for a Local Authority candidate on yet another ballot paper).
The hearing into it was concluded only a few weeks ago iirc, and they've made assurances that the same mistake won't be made again. confused

Well it's just about over now.

By the time I get up again in the morning the US voters will be realising that they've been duped and they can look forward to four years (maybe more) of President Wooster the First.

While everyone was looking the wrong way I hacked the voting system. Cool (I did run into a small glitch this morning when Obama was voting..it took him about twenty minutes for him to cast his various votes and I thought he'd rumbled my surreptitious activity inside his polling station (bastard farted as well while I was in there, and let me tell you it was rotten. That's why his kids were so anxious to get out of there)..but he left smiling, so I believe he suspected nothing. Wink)

Too late Mrs Bond! I'm afraid my plans for world domination are well under way and cannot now be stopped by mere mortals!
So bring on your precious Eff Bee Eye, and I shall scoff at them over my morning tea and crumpets.

Muhaha, muhahaha. Cool

Morning tea and crumpets?  laugh  You're a sissy, not a world dominator.  I'll meet you at the breakfast table with my raw eggs and cactus juice.   punk

Its 8:45pm here, Obama has 194 projected electoral votes to McCain's 69.  It looks like a victory since he has to get 270 and just won Ohio.

Sorry, Woosty, looks like you're plan is foiled.

199 to 78. The fat lady has sung(no, not Vasco)! California, Oregan and Washington are pretty much Obama's, and Mccain and the lipstick wearing bull dog are done.
