I just put a new burner (LG) in my pc, so now i have 2, I made the new one a slave (not sure what that means), but my question is can I put a movie in one(the original one{master}) and burn it straight onto a disc on the new one, thus saving time. If so how do i do it, I normally use 'DVD 1 click'. PS if there is a better method or if I should do something differently please tell me...thanks Adrian..

You can indeed, Nero and all the popular progs will handle it. It's called 'on the fly' so have a check at your current software and see if it has an 'on the fly' option.
I still use disc -> hdd -> disc method when copying to eliminate any chance of errors.

Is it in BIOS you made it a slave or is it an IDE drive with jumpers ?

Huh....? All I can tell ya is that the ribbon that plugs into the old one has an extra plug along it so I plugged that in (in series), then i moved the little clipp on the back of it from master to slave. I havent gohne into bios. Should I??

Each ribbon should have one master and one slave on it, but if it's playing, then it's probably working OK.
There might be a utility on DVD1Click which has to be run to detect the new drive. There's also the problem with burn rights, Nero for instance won't copy a protected DVD (I.E. A legit movie you bought in a shop), DVD1Click might be the same. You should be looking at something like the combination of CloneDVD and AnyDVD for that type of thing..

Are CloneDVD and AnyDVD free...?
So there is no need for me to go into bios?

You have to *cough* buy them. You'd probably have to check your BIOS settings if it was a SATA drive, but you've answered that question now. IDE is old school and it looks like you've jumpered it correctly.

Nero does do protected burns, but it depends. It should burn an audio disc where as movies, ah non!

Ok, thanks lads, I have sorted it out, and all is working fine now. FYI. I also read that if the 2 burners are physically connect eg.sharing the same strip of ribbon, that even though its possible to burn on the fly, that its not recomended, I'll read more of it later and let you know why. I did do a couple of burns on the fly last night and all went well, then I did a couple with DVD1Click, then a couple with DVD shrink, and no probs... Thank all ye bastards for your help...

Thank all ye bastards for your help... Same channel isn't recommended indeed mate for on the fly. Swap them over, one on the same ribbon as the hard drive and one on it's own.

No.
the slave and master doesn't pertain to the two optical drives, it pertains to the channel they are on ie the ribbon.
One will be a primary channel and the other a secondary.
So the one on it's own ribbon will be the master on that channel and that's that ribbon, we shall leave it. The one with the hard drive on it...the hard drive should have the same jumper(switch, little plastic thing) as the optical drive, that should be set as master and the optical drive sharing the channel (ribbon) set as slave. Voilla.
