I've bought a few PC mags as of late something I used to do every month, I would buy both PC format and PC Gamer for all my PC tech and gaming news. Sometimes custom PC.
Anyhoo, I stopped about 2 years ago.
So, the past wee while I've been dabbling again.
This month I've read a few features on Vista v XP and the general conclusion is that XP is still faster than Vista, you don't actually need Vista for anything more than DX 10 which hasn't really manifested and the legacy support for Vista just hasn't happened or due to happen especially compared to the Windows 98 to XP switch.
In fact M$ were fully expected apparently to stop support for XP in the next 2 years. as it happens XP has been so succesful that M$ would be failing so many clients thery can't stop the support and have announced that XP support shall contunue for at least 5 years and possibly 10. The ten is a far reach though even in my very very humble opinion.
Anyhoo...
My point.
Both XP and Vista are due released SP's and according to the beta testers, the results are in...
Drum roll please maestro
Vista SP1 - Performance hit...1 to 2 % slower with absolutely no legacy support issues resolved and most of the common initial Vista problems still persisting.
XP SP3 - a massive 10% increase in performance which in several Vista v XP benchmarks equates to 200% faster performance in XP.
