I should have been a bit clearer and mentioned "for the price"

I am getting the 3850 which is less than half the price of an 8800 GT.

Yes the 8800 GT is better but it is not twice as good but it is more than double the price of a 3850.  So value for money wise (and as I am on a strict budget) the 3850 is the better buy.  If I had another $250 to spend then I might go up to an 8800GT but it just isn't in the budget.

If you are building this for gaming, sacrifise cpu speed for graphics horsepower.

ie, if your spending £150 on a cpu, get a £75 one and pump the rest into your graphics card.

Cheapest 3850 I can find is $169.99USD. Cheapest 8800GT I can find is $229.99USD. That is only $60USD difference.  Yes, I googled but found no more than a few dollars difference lower but quite a few results higher. Do they really charge that much more for a 8800GT there? scratchhead

They have a habit of trying to control markets.

I tried to buy a pile of Intel processors from the US a couple of years back and the vendors were having none of it and referred me back to UK sellers.  scratchhead

HS, that's 396.81 here. If I order it for you and send it snail mail with current exchange rates, it will only cost you a max of $291.That's a huge disparity.  scratchhead

That sounds like a sweet deal.  Cool

The only drawback might be if it came to RMA'ing it.
But in the unlikely event that you had to, sending it back to Thermal to RMA it from within the USA would only cost an extra few days, well worth the lower cost. Cool

Thanks for the offer but my new rig is ordered and the deposit paid and yes I changed the Radeon for the 8800 as some of the other prices dropped so I could do that and stay in budget.   biggrin

You're such a fart smeller..errr..I mean smart feller, Vasco. I know you'll love the difference the 8800GT makes. There is also an extra bonus in that the 8800gt is pci-e 2.0. That means it will fit next gen boards. So if you ever lose your MB, the 8800 will fit and be even faster. Wink
