O.K....A few months ago I had a new driver box thingy installed which has worked fine till now......So today I've come to put a disc in & it wont open?Huh???

The LED light on the driver box itself inside the cover is flashing when I press eject so its getting power but apart from that I have no idea???

Any help appreciate....

I take it your talking about a CD/DVD optical drive?  scratchhead

If you look on the front you'll see a small hole, straighten a paper clip and push it into this hole and it will manually pop the drive tray out.  Wink

It'll look something like this..

When you get it out, press the button and see if it retracts with the motor again, if it doesn't the motor is possibly dead.
(Not to worry though, a reasonable replacement drive only costs about £20 and takes 5 minutes to replace...difficulty level is almost zero  Wink)

£60  blink
That's you nearly into CD/DVD (dual layer) RW with Blu Ray and HD read territory. (about £80)

For a bog standard dual layer DVD/CD burner £20 is a top end price..
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Products.ASP?CatID=12&FilterCategories=489&Thumbnails=yes

At those prices it's easier and cheaper to just toss a broken drive and replace it with a more reliable brand (Lite-On, Panasonic etc..).

What make/model is the busted one? (you'll find it in Device Manager) scratchhead

(btw, I'd expect an optical drive to last at least 5 years.. confused)

I'd be tempted to take it back to where you bought it and bounce it off the shopkeepers skull if he didn't replace it.. nowink

O.K if I remember rightly it was £60.00 with the service that was done at the same time.... blush

The drive info is Model ASUS DRW 1814BL.......Peripheral Type ATAPI..

Thanks for the help..I'll nip into the shop on the way home and see what they say... unsure

Lite-On DH-20A4P-09C 20x DVD±R, 8x DVD±DL, DVD + RW x8/-RW x6, DVD-RAM x12, IDE Tri-bezel Retail

Is this an O.K choice?Huh?? I only use it for loading the odd game no burning or anything like that so it doesn't have to be top of the range.

Seems ok to me mate..
The lightscribe feature means that you can burn labels directly onto the top of the disk (if you buy lightscribe disks), if you ever did any burning that is.  tongue2
