I have a flatscreen Samsung 19 inch monitor, a little over a year old. Just the other day I noticed down the right side of the screen there is a kind of cloudy line. It's really difficult to explain. It's about an inch in, and straight on the side closest to the edge of the screen, but on the side towards the middle of the screen, it's all sort or blurry and cloudy and not straight at all. You can see through it, it's obviously the monitor not drivers or anything, though I updated the drivers when this happened on the off chance that could help. This just started on it's own, I had been playing WOW and decided to do a reboot, and poof, there it was. I also noticed that when I turn the monitor off for a few hours, it goes away, but after being on for a few hours, it's back again, exactly the same as before. It's quite irritating, and I have no idea what to do about it. Anyone have any ideas on what caused this and if I can fix it, and if so, how?

I'm going to assume it is out of warranty and you are stuck with the problem unless you replace the monitor(repair not worth it cost wise) But a temporary fix may be to use a desk fan to help cool the monitor if you feel the monitor is the true cause of the problem. Flat panels don't generate the heat like a CRT monitor would and your problem seems to be heat related so it could also be your videocard over heating. Cleaning the inside of your comp is a good idea - use compressed air to blow out any dust that is built up on the fans and heatsinks for the CPU, Videocard and power supply - do it outside as it can be messy.

Yankee had a similar problem with his monitor and had it replaced under warranty by Samsung. His is a Samsung 920N. I'm sorry, Nightbird but your monitor is cactus.

Sounds goosed to me. I can't think of anything that would cause it other than heat generated through time, those panels get pretty darned hot.

If it is only *just* out of warranty, I think she should at least try it on with Samsung. They had no hesitation in replacing Yankee's monitor. :smile:

Interesting, mine is a 920Nx. Did they replace it with a new or refurbished monitor? Did he have to send it in and wait for a replacement or how does that work with Samsung for replacements?
I think I will give them a call.

I called them, but I need to figure out if it's my video card or my monitor. So I need a different PC or a different Monitor to test it. The good news they had for me is that it's a 3 year warranty, not 1, so once I can test it out, if it is the monitor I can still get it replaced.

Good to hear you have a 3 year on it. I gave up on Samsung a long time ago as I had way to many of their products that would die just out of warranty or near the end of it, but to be fair they always honored the warranty and the replacement was fairly quick.

Sounds like a dead column on the LCD screen itself, so it's toast I'm afraid.  Lucky you have that warranty.

I think I will give them a call.
They replaced it with a brand new monitor. He had to pack his up AFTER the new one arrived and send it back to the distributor at their cost. He wasn't left without a monitor at any stage. Was a sweet deal. Excellent about the 3 year warranty.

Just to give you slightly more hope;
Samsung recently replaced my 205BW with a brand new screen due to the swivel stand breaking loose. Completely hassle free and 1 month left on the warranty. I doubt you will have any trouble tbh.
Ive seen a white vertical ghosting before on a CRT years back (when I was MAC based) - if you are getting a Graduated white strip that fades into the desktop background it sounds to me a monitor issue.
