I am the lizard king. I can do anything.

« on: August 24, 2007, 12:04:17 AM »

Everytime I boot my computer /reboot the blooming thing takes ages unless I unplug the printer before the "bios" information loads and it hangs at the point "detecting usb mass storage devices" or similar message in bios screen..

It doesn't matter what printer because it did the same with my previou multifunction as well (Canon MP370) and now with my HP 3110 Photosmart.. I have an Asus P5W-DH mb with bios 2205 (latest)

I did try something in Bios called "Disable USB Legacy  Devices"  and I believe the problem went away but then my keyboard doesn't work at all in non-windows environment (command prompt) or if I have to select Vista in multiple boot screen (XP and Vista menu)

So is there a way to fix this ?

Does the same thing happen with the printer turned off?

I  haven't tried that. I just unplug the USB cable from the printer to get the boot time to return to normal

I will try it plugged in and turned off tonight  and let you know how it turns out.

I think maybe your PC is trying to boot from USB. Check your bios boot order, what's it set at?

My boot order doesn't mention anything to do with USB.  When I turn off the printer , booting is normal, no delay. So at least now it is easier than before. The problem still exists thought. It's just easier to deal with now.

Thanks

Crap, and I'm fixing to get Vista in my new system. I'm gonna go for the dual boot though.
