actually yeah, really getting the thing built is the easy part. i mean, you can build a pc from scratch in about an hour.
installing and patching windows, and turning off the annoying shit in it takes at least that.
before you even start installing office/games/media players etc.

I was going to build mine but the place I bought the parts from offered to do it for free and install Windows for me. So I let them do it, they did a good job to. I had direct communication with the tech guy working on my machine so he asked me what I wanted and we discussed my selections and in the end changed the graphic card to one with a Zalman cooler for better cooling as it was the same price as the same card without the cooler.
Very good service and they are only 100yards down the road from my office.
I have built PCs in the past and I agree with Thermal, it isn't as tough as you expect. Just don't force anything, it should all fit together easily and without force.
I have also been know to cuss at software installs and particularly Windows driver difficulties.

It's been a lot easier since XP first graced our hard drives.
Windows 98 (and even 05) that was a frickin driver nightmare.
Search for the driver automatically ? Yeah, go on then Windows, give us a laugh.

Did that ever work? TBH I can't remember a single occasion where 'search for a driver' has come up with a result.

Well on XP it worked via not asking for a driver if you installed it yourself via an exe.
In 98 you would install the driver then windows more often than not still had to search for it or be pointed in the right direction.

Yeah, on both you basically had to do it manually, but I still can't think of an instance where the 'search for driver automatically' option worked, if you hadn't already installed one yourself. You'd always get the 'no driver could be found for this device' message, then you had to take it by the hand and lead it to the driver yourself ('Browse').

I can't remember, it's been so long.

They even had problems if the drivers were on a CD-ROM. You had to point it to the specific folder most of the time.
