Winter is coming!

« on: October 12, 2008, 05:55:18 PM »

I'm sitting here watching my kid Ben who is three.
He has a new Thomas the tank train track, wee battery op thing.
Anyway it has this tunnel and each time it went through it the carriage was getting stuck on the tunnel wall.
I watched with great interest to see how he was going to solve the problem and if not to see how long he would persevere before asking me to fix it.
After around 20 seconds he lifted the tunnel clean off and discarded it to the side.
I thought to myself 'clever boy, if you can't fix the problem then remove the problem'   laugh yay

 Cool Cool smile

My nephew (He's 3) has started asking stuff like "how do we make words?", he was told it was through air passing over our vocal chords..so he thought for a bit and asked "how do they know what to do?" ..my sister didn't really know and said 'your brain tells them what to do', which led to the inevitable "How does your brain know?".. tongue2 (That was our Mary stumped for an answer  happy)

"What's beneath the ground?", "What keeps it up?" and "Why don't we fall through it?" are other recent questions he's came up with. laugh

Smart friggin' kids. It does show the different development paths each child has chosen and what each child could be. Keasy's kid sounds like an engineer and Wooster's nephew sounds like a scientist. notworthy

In my line of work, knowing how stuff works is crucial. I deal with integrated systems where a failure of a component can manifest itself in a way that masks the original problem. I still have to be the pragmatist and just throw out the thing that doesn't work though. Wink

Btw I can't see Max winning any Nobel prizes when the answers he got to his questions were "Dirt", "More Dirt" and "Because of all that dirt".. laugh
