'An how faust kin it ging?'

Cheated, is how it feels.
It's a good movie, and no mistake, but it's a bit of a rip off..in fact a huge rip off imho.

It's a re-interpretation of The City Of God (Cidade de Deus)..
(They've shifted continents and saved the lazy f*ckers at the emmy and oscar committees from having to read subtitles, but it's essentially the same story)

8/10 if you haven't seen City of God, 6/10 if you have (you'll be disappointed)

(City of God rates a 10/10 in my book btw)

City of God received a few academy award nominations, So I think they probably did read the subtitles instead of waiting around for some one to make an English speaking version for them    laugh

Nominated though, not won. confused

It's still pretty much the same movie, but not quite as good.

I'm honestly fairly disappointed, since it started off so well and lasted for most of the movie. But from about halfway through I felt they'd 'borrowed' a lot from City of Gold. confused *

Still a good movie though, but I'd rate it under Seven pounds and Gran Torino.

*I dunno, I may be wrong, but if anyone is willing to watch the two back to back, I'm sure they'll see what I'm getting at. scratchhead

So, they still had to watch it and read the subtitles.

Dont agree with you wooster...

I do agree that City Of God is a very very good film but I cannot really grasp that you think that SlumDog ripped it off?

Both films are about a young boy growing up in the slums but tbh thats where the link stops imho.

I've never seen all of CoG so couldn't comment, but as far into it as I have seen (half way) I thought it wasn't all that similar myself.

There are a load of similarities, but don't let my rantings put you off the movie..it is excellent. Wink

As for the Oscar committee, what I didn't take into consideration (since I was pished at the time) was, that for a change, they weren't doling out awards among their own..the cast, story and production were all absolutely top drawer. Cool

I still don't think it's quite as hard hitting as City of God though..where the outcome for everyone was average at best. (In as much as one of them was lucky enough to even get a job and the rest of them were pretty much f*cked from the day they were born (and there lie the similarities))
