Good luck mate...Did anyone watch the thing on the news about the America were 7000 people turned up at a football stadium to interview for 150 jobs...Very scary
Here we can only get 6 months of unemployment pay. I think the bail out extended it, but it's still only roughly 2/3 of your pay. Some people have been looking for a job for longer than that. Sad

Nothing, and they even take you out of the unemployment statistics.  So our 8% or so unemployment figure that came out last week isn't even close to the real number because it excludes people who have given up and those who have exceeded their unemployment benefits.

I think it's a shit system at the moment also. The only trade off is that our income tax "in total", including state and federal taxes, is a bit lower than yours. Over here republicans and business scream at the audacity of any one taking their money to help anyone else. They believe you make it yourself, or feck off. That is until they are fecked, then they stick out their hands as fast as anyone else. Witness the bail out and Obama's attempt to spread it around. The republicans and the rich are attacking him viciously. I'm almost tempted to have the corporate fuckers sink, but unfortunately, the whole economy would suffer. That is their saving grace as far as I'm concerned.

OK then...its not good but its possible that I can keep my position.

The CEO told my boss that I was a casualty that could not be avoided!
My boss is fighting my corner tooth and nail (along with a couple of other key members).
Yesterday we sat going through the figures from 10am - 8pm and have managed the saving required without losing me (which is good).

Unfortunatly by keeping me we have to in effect lose 4/5 others which is making me feel incredibly selfish...

I have a meeting tomorrow to put another iron in the fire (the guy will snap me up without a second thought).
I have also contacted a couple of high profile friends in the trade who also have some potential leads.

ATM I will keep my job and current wage - our new P&L will be presented to the CEO this morning so again fingers crossed.

Thanks for all your replies on this  Cool

scratchhead

Anyway, hope things go well Tom. Don't feel selfish, you've got a wife and two kids to feed. (Well, I assume your wife can eat by herself, but you knew what I meant...)

I got a new job today. My current contract is until 30th April, my new job is until end of april/may. I know my job will end soon...  Sad

Well, Eatit you can't feel guilty.  You have to take care of number one.  Hopefully, they'll cut people on the bottom of the totem pole and spare those who work really hard.

I had to fire an employee today and our business is booming.  It really sucks when I know he's going to have a hard time finding a job out there, but he should have been doing his job for us.  I have 3 more about to start progressive discipline.  One of them asked me today "So, these pep talks you give me, do they mean I'll eventually get (gesture with finger across neck)."  My answer was yes, unless you listen to those talks and make the changes you need to.  That cut the conversation really short.

Sorry for lack of input elsewhere on here (I am sure you understand) but I said I would keep you updated...

The new budget was handed in and has been rejected so we are back to square one, ie me out of work.

No dates of when or announcement etc.

FUCK IT
