Wow, first post in this area.

Anyhoo.

My graphics card (x850xt) has shat it i think. About two weeks ago i went to my PC and the screen was like the "snow" you get on a disused tv channel (by the way did you know that the "snow" on a TV is leftover background radiation from the big bang?)

so, i reboot and get shit, no output from card but a few green lines. It spontaneously resolved itself for no reason and i put it down to overheating or a glitch in the matrix

It happened again the other day and it's not coming back on

So i was just wondering, is this the normal way a card dies, could it be the motherboard? I don't have spares of either to check either to be honest.

As a replacement i was thinking of a x1950pro, a bargain at £80 and around the same spec as the x850xt

Checked the cable's tight and the card is seated?

Tried slingshotting it around Jupiter three times and The Sun twice until it approaches light speed to see if the Cosmic Microwave Backround Radiation problem diminishes or stays the same? (If it stays about the same I'd say the card was goosed or you have a faulty Tachyon Injector on the main booster.)

tried all the usual aye. unplugged all my other devices etc, etc.

Pisser cos the card was only two years old, never overclocked. Hardly used in fact.

Odd the slingshotting usually works for me, at least the second time around anyway.  Huh?

Whack it in another PC and see if the same thing happens.

You can bung it in mines to see Stevie, but please, wipe the shat from it first.

bizarre.

It's started working again. All dxdiag tests pass

I think this might be mobo related.

pmsl.

It's strange, but i did a new xp build and put latest cat drivers on, it's since i did upgraded to the latest cats that i've been seeing this problem,

Anyway, rolled back and it all seems ok, is it possibe that a driver upgrade can make a permanent hardware change on the card, like flash a bios upgrade as well? I know i can "hot change" my mobo bios while in windows.

Saying that i don't think there's anything in the release notes about that.

baffled.

It might have pushed it over the edge, or it may be that there are remnants of the new driver still in there and having an effect.

There's some driver erasers available at Guru3d
