I think the Japanese suffer from a huge cultural inferiority complex. On one hand they make some really top drawer compact technology, but on the other I think they all wish they were 6' 2" with huge tits (or knobs) and large eyes (and probably 12 years old at the same time ). Image obsessed is what it probably boils down to.

nice one...personally i think there is something to be said for japanese cartoon art...why don't you recreate this drawing but do it manga style, the results would be interesting

Spirited Away is a Disney backed number iirc..sort of pre-processed for the west. It's bloody good though. Howls Moving Castle isn't bad either. (more of the same) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hbntEofuT0Kiki’s Delivery Service is another one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2NVl9n4qWY (not so good) Some of it I just cant get into though..

Wasnt there a documentary that talked about the number of plastic surgery being done by Japanese? It's like all things, you want what you dont have (except cockwise if it's downsizing to a less then adequate length)

'Jin Roh The Wolf Brigade' has got to be seen to dispel this myth that Japanese animation is all cutesy and big eyed. Okay it's not a myth and lots of it is, but this is a class-A example of one that is not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oui3kAkUqE

We've seen both of those. Drew is really in the Manga and Anime. She saw Ctulu's drawing and I told her about him not wanting to make it Manga, and she said she'd try to draw something similar in Manga style. I don't know if she will or not but if she does I'll post it up. Ctulu, you don't mind do you? You're an excellent artist, I really like your drawings.

She is really developing into a great artist. I hope she has the inspiration to do something with it, unlike someone we know. :

I hope she at least achieves her dreams mate mine were shattered with art college teached me squat. Went there with the hope of being thought basic techniques like inking, coloring but no. It was just "do this with that and see you in a month for evaluation" I shure would've liked to getting payed for teaching like that. After that year I was disgusted with "art" that I stopped drawing. Now it's just a passtime which I enjoy but have no ambition in developping further. Yup, I have the spine of a slug

Here it is, nothing like what yours is. I kinda know what you mean, Drew gets bored with art class, mind you she's only 11 so the teachers have set assignments that they have to follow. She makes brilliant art work at school and at home but she rarely gets any awards because she doesn't follow the rules. I had her in art classes about 3 years ago and the monotony of color wheels and shading techniques really bogged her down. We took her out after a few lessons. She'd much rather draw something that she wants to draw when she wants to draw it. She hates to be told how to do something and especially hates to be told when to do it. I try to keep from giving her "assignments" because I want her to always enjoy her artwork. I broke that rule tonight.
