O.K I need a bit of help in deciding which one I should go for...basically I need something that will give me web access but will also be able to store Raw images.....Playing Eve would be nice but not essential.... smile

Also what would be a good service to go for...? & how much should I buy...?

We have a buget of about £200.00 but I will go higher if I need to......

Not much of a gaming pc Wink, but it does have a decent hard drive and it's extremely mobile. Small screen for editing though, but I suppose you'll just be using it for the web and storage?

A little more cash buys you a lot more, especially if you go refurbished.

That looks ideal.. Cool

Worth bearing in mind that Netbooks are designed to do pretty much what they say on the tin (i.e. Browse the Net), so don't expect any great shakes if you install games on it. smile

That's just what I'm looking for... smile

It would be for when we are away like Scotland in June or camping...Mainly for the web & to view photo's in the night time with a beer.... tongue2

What would you use to store raw files? Am I right in thinking it would not be up to running CS4?

Photoshop could be a bit slow..
It might run Gimp though.

What are your mobile internet plans?
In Scotland there are huge swathes of the country where you won't get any mobile connection at all.
Vodafone and Orange aren't too bad, and O2 is reasonable.

If you need it, most of the hotels up there are set up with wireless anyway, so you could sit in the bar and browse at your leisure.
Some charge, some don't (just chat up the barmaid for the key while the wife parks the van.. laugh)

McDonalds have free internet as well, so you could sit in the carpark if you are looking for free internets.

*edit* I don't know much about the Netbooks on the market mate..just enough to know and avoid the ones that use SSD's instead of traditional SATA/IDE type drives.
But that one looks pretty good for the money. Wink

One of these would do us
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0126988267.1241192085@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccfadehedijldjcflgceggdhhmdgml.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=272743&category_oid=

30hours for £30.00 it would last us the holiday & then some.

I'd avoid 3 Mobile like the plague if you plan on using it in the wilds of Scotland, I've heard that they have about the worst coverage of the lot.

McDonalds have free wireless internet through The Cloud network (we fitted the wireless kit.. Cool).
They use Cisco 1241 AP's and the range is usually enough to extend to the car park.

So all you need to do is scan for wireless networks outside or inside a McD's and you should see the 'The Cloud' in the SSID list.
Connect to that and it'll take you to the main landing page where you can 'Log In'..you don't need to log in iirc, just start Googling and you'll find that you are on the net anyway. Wink

In the early phase of the rollout, you had to pay.

But I think McD's realised, quite rightly, that if they offered it up for free then they'd generate some sales through it.
I use the McD's on the A9 near Dunkeld regularly, to check my emails when I'm on the road.

You can try it out by driving down to your local McD's first. Wink

All of the UK/ROI McD's are on the same standard at the moment.

Just buy a coffee, that's what I do if I can't pick up their wifi in the car park. Wink
