Back on the original topic, most people who have objections to the gu'mmint running our healthcare are afraid of their general inefficiency in doing ANYTHING and definite inefficiency in running healthcare.  Current medicare (old people healthcare) is deep in the red and if you ever went to a Veterans Administration hospital you'd be frightened about how they treat our veterans.  It's cheap for the veterans and it's cheap in general.

Then there's the people who come here from countries with NHS for treatment here because they are on an insanely long list there.  Some companies have benefits for employees as healthcare in the US instead of their home country.

Is our current system fucked up?  Hell yes.  Will turning it over to that morass of morons, the US government, fix it more than break it?  I'm doubtful.

Xactly, we need to keep healthcare insurance private and subsidize small businesses with tax money to allow them to provide healthcare to their workers.  The gov't will just mess it up like they've messed up Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP.  Obama promises that no one with an income less than 250K will be taxed.  We can only hope that he can keep his promise and that the money gathered will be enough to help people who have fallen through the cracks and need healthcare.  NTM the businesses out there providing self-insured health benefits.  They are protected by ERISA.  A very good set of laws aimed at protecting the employer from the government and States rights.

BTW we're on the same page as far as pizza, watch out Keas we's gots guns.

We do a fair bit of health tourism ourselves, Eastern Europe is dirt cheap for some procedures.

That was a mental image I didn't need.   ohmy

Life saving and serious illness healthcare should be a basic right.  And we have that now since if you take your broken ass into an ER they will fix it for you.  They'll try to bill you for it but we all know that that doesn't mean they'll collect.

True, but that needs to be fixed because they just pass the cost on to us with higher fees. Everyone pays, everyone gets healthcare is the only viable way to control costs and provide for everyone. How to get that done is the question.
