Yep, America has been in my thoughts today, I think it's become a quite a significant day for the whole world, although such a horrible ,evil act was done on american soil, it affected the ENTIRE world, another day in history the world will never ever forget. Sad

I remember when i heard, Bridgette was watching her morning cartoons whilst I was feeding taylor. Nails had stopped off home and the first thing he said to me was "have you seen the news" of course i hadn't yet......not in my wildest of dreams could i ever have imagined what was to be on the news when nails switched it on for me. And he just happened to have turned it on as they were showing a plane hitting the first tower, my first thoughts were "it's some new movie?"......nails told it was real, no movie stunts and it was one the towers....just when i was trying to comprehend that, he went on to tell me that both towers had been hit by terrorists in planes n both towers collapsed.........and then i saw the horror unfolding before my eyes, it was n still is incomprehensible Sad

For the rest of the day i was glued to the tv, I couldn't tear myself away, i couldn't stop crying, mum had called at lunchtime ,she was in tears as my aunt n cousin were over in new york at the time and she coudn't get hold of them (fortunately it turned out they were ok, no where near the towers)......but so many innocent people taken from loved ones in such an evil n inhumane way, even now 6 yrs on, still makes me cry for so many people who were personally affected by this day......and if i feel this way and I'm australian and wasn't even there, i cannot even being to imagine how america felt/feels.........

i recently watched this movie with Nicholas Cage in it, it's based on what happened that morning for two men who survived the collapse of the two towers.  it is a very moving movie and VERY sad to say the least, if you haven't seen it, do watch it but be sure to have alot of issues Sad

My thoughts n prayers to all of america and to all of those who lost their loved ones......my heart goes out to you.

It's has to be the most effective terror attack in history.

It was designed to give The USA a shake and the rest of the world the after shock.
It certainly done that.

I personally think we should have a victims day, where all people killed on 9/11 and in the subsequent war/campaign and Al Qaeda led terror attacks are mourned under the banner of one world united against terror.

I have an opinion.

Every act of terrorism should be scrutinized and remembered, not one in paticular.

If this offends then I'm sorry.

I watched the movie a while back and it was heart rending.
NNex I see what you are saying but as Rayne said, this affected the whole world and probably will for many years to come.

There's no denying it was the most momentous and shocking event most of us have ever (and if we are lucky, will ever) seen in our lifetimes.

It still renders me speechless...

I remember exactly what I was doing this day 6 years ago thats how much of an impact it made on me! I cant even remember much about last week.

I was in P6 and the janitor came running in saying something about the pentagon but because he was so breathless from running up the stairs (he was old and unfit) we couldnt make him out. and at the age of 11 I didnt know what the pentagon was.

My mum came to pick me, my bro and my sis from school and I asked her if she had heard anything on the news.
She hadn't heard anything.
So went home and turned on sky news 24 on sky. not even a minute the tv had been switched on the 2nd plane hit the tower.
My mind at that time could not comprehend something of that magnitude and the people jumping from those hieghts was unbelieable.
It was like something from a nightmare come true.
Sitting there I knew I was watching History in the making and I made myself remember everything about it so I can tell my kids/grandchildren about it and where I was.

My deepest sympathy's go out to people who had their family life's destroyed in that day

I woke up to the sound of the radio announcer saying what a tragic day in history for America. My first thought was that someone shot Bush (wishful thinking) but the announcer wasn't saying what the tragedy was. I made it to the living room TV just in time to see the second plane hit and later the collapse. I'll never forget what the cowards did that day.

can i ask why? (just curious)

but man....how many years am i still supposed to think about it?

hmmm, that'd be like an aussie saying, how long am i meant to think about anzac day? I wasn't around when that happened, should i think about it each n every year til the day i die?.........course i should, it's one day out of year in which i'm reminded of why i have the freedom i have today, in 9/11 case, it's one day out of the year in which the WHOLE world is reminded that such a tragic event could quite easily have happened in our own backyard, a day we're reminded of the heroism of so many firefighters , police and civilians., the sad loss of soooooo many lives,  the sadness that loved ones left behind will feel each n every year/month/day, that terrorists have no mercy for anyone.....for me (and i'm sure many others) there are so many reasons to remember 9/11 or any world history event that affected so many lives.....this why we have anniversaries, to remember so we don't forget.

Terrorists gets the world's attention, no matter where the threat is/was directed. Just 9/11 got it in the biggest way possible but 6 yrs on, i don't think people think so much about the terrorists as they do for those who lost their lives and those who died trying to save others.

Damn, I can't pick at you for that, that is your own personal view in which you are entitled. Wink

I'm not going to flame you, you are asking a simple question, and I'm going to try and answer your question...But the answer is a lot more complicated than the 'simple' question. We remember all the conflicts and most of us even remember what actually started them. More importantly we remember those men and women that fought in them, but most important above all else we remember those men and women that paid the ultimate price, made the ultimate sacrifice, their life, for us...
It is said that by remembering history it can help to prevent making the same mistakes again. And I believe this.
This attack was (in my view) an act of war, it is their 'jihad' , remember something, they want war, they want a holy war and will stop at nothing to get it.
Since WW2 Pearl Harbour, it was the biggest singular attack on the US, and they should thank their turban wearing arses that the world didnt declare war on everyone of them, I'm not politically correct, I call a spade a spade, only a complete moron would believe we can live in harmony with people who believe we are all infidels, and deserve a death of the worst kind, the truth is these fucken retards love war, when they're not killing and fighting others they're fighting and killing each other....fucken zealots...
I have some very good American mates, 2 in particular, Thermalsig and L_Dog, good men who would give you the shirt off their back, I also have relatives in Arizona, but it wouldn't matter if they were from Mars, the point is we are not fighting for territory, they are fighting for their belief an ideal, and their is (in their view) no room for compromise or tollerance..

My dad is 80 and survived WW2 as a teenager in Belgium against the nazi's (watched his mother shot dead and lost a brother) then fought in Korea with the Dutch a veteran of Hill 325, and he paid very dearly, but thats another story, all this has made him wise and a real world view of the truth of human nature , the good and the bad, he even believes the only way to make this problem go away is to eradicate everyone of them cochroaches..

Now who wants to flame me..Huh?Huh??

Yes, remember exactly where I was when these fuckers killed over 2000 innocent people, I was on leave, could hear my 10month old son Liam crying in his cot, I went to check on him, Kristina was asleep, so was Nicole, I put the kettle on, lit up a smoke and turned the idiot box on, I thought it was a B grade movie at first, but it was on every channel...

BTW + Keasy points for Sugar, good thread.... biggrin

It is also a day that comes back to me every time there is a bomb threat or scare.Glasgow Airport was lately attacked by one of these very terrorists.Just when you think its all happening on the other side of the world it smacks you round the face!
I wasnt trying to get anyone arguing,I just wanted to express my views to my american friends who though I have never met them (and probably never will ) I certainly do call my friends.

In all fairness I can see why it is just another day to many folks.

For years the provisional IRA bombed civilian targets in terror attacks against England and it's children, they also attacked Ulster soil. And guess where the majority of that vile organisations funds came from ? The US of A that's where.
So it's not by any means my stance but I gave that as an example why many people see it as everything American being a big deal and the rest of the World doesn't matter that much. So to many it's more an American thing and just another day to them. We don't really see Americans coming onto forums and posting about how sorry they are on the anniversary of July 7 or the anniversary of the Madrid train bombings. Again, I'm giving examples.

But to me it's ramifications where World wide and deliberately too and my whole hearted sympathy goes out to everyone who lost a loved one.

PS. I like the honesty of folks having the bravery to say that, it's very easy to get shot down for such opinion on such a sensitive subject. I also adore the excellently put opinions that have been worded well yet not digressed to flames.
