What I am saying is that it is all up to perspective and that those of us in the West need to also look at what our governments get up to. 

I deplore what Iran is doing and I also deplore some of the things we in the west get up to which are equally as bad.

Agreed.  But that's very different from saying that Iran is merely copying things the US have done.  I know the US is everyone's favorite kicking post but we don't deserve it as often as we receive it (previous administration excepted as those monkeys were out there).  Iran has been a country of reactionary oppression for a very, very long time and need no pointers from anyone on how to screw over random people who end up in the wrong place at the right time.

I don't think Vasco ever implied that the Iran were copying the USA, in fact the reverse is probably more accurate.
It looked to me that he was pointing out the fallacy in carrying out that kind of policy (bad news/press travels faster than good).


US foreign policy is probably best described as a road that was meant to be paved with best intentions, but it didn't quite pan out that way (which is pretty much par for the course when it comes to empire building).
We'll let you off though, you're new at this kind of thing.

This is what I said and I did not point the finger driectly at the USA.  Games like this have been around for a long time.
