Vista

IE8 and Chrome

kaspersky internet security - Problem started after installing this program

No connection could be made to the net at all - updates failed, connections with browsers failed etc

Uninstalled kaspersky internet security software and even turned off the windows firewall at which point Windows Defender was able to update so I know the connection was working but the browsers failed to connect.

I checked and then rechecked every network setting I could think of and still was unable to get the browsers to connect. Any Ideas???

I spent 2 hours of my Christmas evening trying to get the bosses sister inlaws computer to work  pinch

If you can get a copy of Procexp onto it, then run that.

There might still be a component running from Kaspersky.

Vista also uses UAC, so you generally need to install and uninstall programs under admin privileges (right click>Run as Administrator). (Symantec products are bad for this, for some reason the updater service has a habit of sticking around)

There's also a removal tool available on their website which might be worth trying first.

(Btw...a lot of people are using the free version of Avast at the moment if you are looking for an alternative)

I gave the computer back to her that night...let her deal with tech support  laugh

Thanks for the link to the process explorer -I'm sure it will come in handy in the future.

.....Avast - prob my favorite free AV software used it on 4 other laptops that were given to the kids as gifts this year - 2 mini laptops for the youngest kids ($300 each) I ordered them both with XP - not bad but stripped down and over priced IMO, 1 E-Machine ($199) and 1 HP ($299)  - both of them well worth the money spent and came with Windows 7

The limited time I was able to use Win7 I have to say was a pleasure compared to previous first release versions I have used in the past - network configuration and software installation and removal when extremely well. It is the first new OS I have considered buying before the first SP is available for it. I never run the current OS - I am always a full release behind in my upgrades....I could be happy with Win95b TBH as I never had an issue, only upgraded to 98 because I lost my disc and EVEonline forced me to XP...timing seems right for Win7  laugh
