on an asus p5v800-mx, changed battery, flashed bios to 0802 but still getting the error of course only when power disconnected.
Machine runs fine when up and running but a bit of a pain to say to the customer'keep it plugged in'
Trawled the net, but can't find a solution.

Must be something to do with not the battery itself but the connector or somewhere along the circuit from the battery to the CMOS.

Just tell them it's unfixable but to leave it plugged in is a solution or you will upgrade it for them Wink

It might even be something as simple as a corroded contact in the battery socket. (it is a bit humid over there)

I had an old Asus board that would do that to me. The bios wasn't supposed to fail on a checksum, but load defaults. It was similar to the problem you're having, but it would only happen once in a while when powered down. I bought it from a shop that luckily gave me another board and let me keep that one. The new one had no problems. To this day that I know of, the old board still has the problem. Some times it just boils down to a fault in the mobo.

It's the risk I take when I buy used hardware. I always explain any minor glitches prior to sale anyway.
Niggly though.
