Winter is coming!

I used the Open DNS servers yesterday and was surprised to see you now need to create an account to use them. I suspiciously read the T&C's to see why and it's still cool. Third parties are involved but no traceable info is sold.

Anyhoo.

After updating the DNS servers in my router it suddenly went to a strict NAT, and it did cause restrictions on on-line gaming etc., but not normal browsing, that was speeded up  scratchhead

Why did that happen ?
How would I go about using Open DNS and keep the NAT settings loose ?

And while you're thinking that one through, what came first? The chicken or the egg? scratchhead

Changing your dns should not have changed your nat settings.

Strict nat just means that your application (i'm guessing MW2) was not reachable from the internet on the specified ports.

Open nat means it is reachable. Are your ports forwarded OK?

I didn't change a thing apart from my DNS servers.

But suddenly the NAT was restrictive.

It may have been a FW problem though.

I had to reinstall W7 today and no matter how hard I tried I could not connect wireless to my router.
I hardwired to the router, changed my ssid to a preferred, changed my cipher, security key etc. Wrote it all down, still  no connect.

I spent about 4 hours at it and almost destroyed my keyboard in frustration.

Constantly entered the correct pass, constantly rejected.
Deleted the network, re-made the network with a new profile etc.
No joy.

Ended up updating the firmware and connected straight away.   Roll Eyes

Was it before or after you upgraded the firmware that your nat went strict?

Maybe wiped your port forwarding settings
