This, this is just brilliant this wee registry entry.

It takes all the arse out taking ownership out of windows 7

http://www.blogsdna.com/2173/add-take-ownership-option-in-right-click-context-menu-of-windows-7.htm

Download it.  Install the registry entry.

After that simply right click on any folder you wish complete ownership of, select take ownership and hey presto, you can do what you want with it. Mainly delete it in my case  Cool

I installed this and it seems to have had a strange side effect, my keyboard now lights up when the PC comes out of Standby.

Until then the backlight only worked on a reboot.. scratchhead

Now that I took ownership and switched indexing off, I can't get indexing back on.
I continue to trawl the net for a solution.

Fixed.
Conflicting advice on the net on how to get indexing up and running again:
d)   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Search
e)   In the right pane, right click on SetupCompletedSuccessfully and click on Modify.
NOTE: If SetupCompletedSuccessfully is not there, then in the right pane, right click on a empty area and click on ‘New’ select ‘DWORD (32 bit)’ Value and type SetupCompletedSuccessfully and press Enter.
f)    Type 0 and click on OK.
NOTE: This is the number zero.
g)   Close Registry editor
h)   Restart the computer

Other suggested modify to 1. My value was already set to one, so I left it at that.
Backed up the registry and created a restore point anyway.
Then went to control panel/indexing options/advanced/troubleshoot search and indexing...followed the steps and manually typed 'indexing is not running' and Win 7 fixed the problem, without me having to make manual changes.

I'm not sure when I would need to take ownership.  I run with full admin rights and UAC off  scratchhead

Even with that I still couldn;t delete a windows old folder, that's how I ended up finding the reg trick.

Yeah I appreciate that, but usually I dont have probs with folders I should be deleting  Wink  Handy tip if ever I get stuck and I used to ages ago, but cant remember when I've ever had an issue going to 7.  The only times I cant delete somthing is usually if its to do with something I have running.

Thanks anyway though  tongue2

It's extra handy when upgrading someone else's rig to W7.

Just pop in the ne wOS without backing anything up...then grab the files to be kept from the windows old folder...then the reg trick lets you delete that folder.

Saves transferring files about to much.
