I'm reading Robin Hobb's tawny man trilogy atm.  I'd recommend you to read the Assassin's trilogy if you like some gritty fantasy.  It's not at all omg-how-cute-are-those-elves, I'll garantee that.  The main character will suffer ... alot, he's not at all the allmighty hero whichs is a bonus point!

I cant read fiction, I once read Steven King, and had read all the Alfred Hitchcock books by age 10, even though I enjoy a good fiction/fantasy movie, (LOTR was fantastic), I just have found theres so much good non-fiction out there it'd be a sin to read fiction...

Stalingrad by Antony Beevor...I've read this about five times if you want the details of what happened to The Sixth Army inside the Kessel then this is a good read. If you like maps and a lot of references + detail try this..

My best collection on a conflict is Vietnam from French Indochina to the fall of Saigon in 1975 a fascinating and tragic war.
I remember watching the helicopters departing the American Embassy on TV at the end of the war as a child. Then aged about 16 I saw a book with the cover showing the same scene...been reading about it ever since.

Martin Windrow - The Last Valley...Magnificent read about the battle for Dien Bien Phu and the French defeat in Vietnam. Again a long read with many maps & references but also a good insight into the loss of Indochina by the french. This is a book best enjoyed with the family out and a couple of big logs on the fire hot coffee or cold beer....AAArrrrrrr the peace & quiet...

Moondust - In Search of The Men Who Fell to Earth
Andrew Smith

I'm not generally one for non fiction, but this was fascinating. It's not all about the landings, but rather about the men themselves and how it has affected them and continues to affect them. For some reason it makes me feel very sad that in my lifetime all the men who landed on the moon will have died. I really hope we go back there one day.

brief synopsis here:

They Marched Into Sunlight. Fantastic book about an instant in history both in the Vietnam War and its effects back home in the States.

Picked this up after watching a really moving "Storyville" BBC documentary based on it.
