It's ok. We'll be able to have a war World Cup style if it comes to it. Imagine the group draw....

Russia
North Korea
Iran
San Marino....

Looking on the bright side, there won't even be Planet Earth in five billion years, so it's all futile anyway. tongue2

You never know, it might lead to an age of co-operation among nations.  smile

Ultimately we are doomed. Anything in the universe as we understand it deterioates. Nobody and nothing in this universe creates energy. It is only converted. IE: light a match and what you are doing is converting the stored energy in the chemicals within the match to light and heat. Light and heat are of course forms of energy that were always there anyway. Light is heat only through our humanly nevervous system perseption. Excited atoms move fast and we percieve that as heat.

A power station producing energy is not doing that at all. It is converting energy that was always there. Burn the coal, make the heat, boil the water, turn the turbines, produce the electromagnetic pulses, send them down the powerline, spin the hairdryer, watch as the hairdryer gives of heat and light. A mere shifting of energy from one state to another. No energy is made, it was always there.

So maybe we are not ultimately doomed and the energy will never run out. Unless of course the universe recompresses and starts all over again.

Or it keeps expanding until the energy is so spread out that it's useless (probably when this idea that it could collapse into a lower energy Universe comes into play)..

The best my feeble dome can come up with is that it might be like a soap bubble popping when the membrane becomes too thin and another appears to fill the void..I dunno, at the end of the day that's for the boffins to explain. tongue2

If I may take an earthier approach so to speak.
It's the lack of respect for our surroundings that gets me really angry. I couldn't give a shit for celebs/reality shows/unreality shows and all that garbage, but what I do care about is respect and care for where we live.
Cutting down trees in the name of progress, to build yet another road for example. Raping the rainforests and wondering why so many people die in mudslides.
Chucking shit out of car windows and ramming Mac Donalds down kids throats to keep them happy.
Open sewers at the side of the roads and no recycling policy whatsoever. I've noticed so much more riding a bike and even more when I ride my bicycle. Nose and eyes more finely tuned.
I'm just talking this country, where pollution and the value of a human life are disregarded on a daily basis. Greed, greed and more greed.
Don't start me Angry

Yes Splint, relying on society's norms is dangerous. One day it may fail. The people who have learned to fish and hunt have an edge. It may be fowned upon for me to shoot, skin and eat a wild beast but I can tell you that kangaroos are very tasty and so are feral pigs and cats.
Packaged meat in a supermarket is presented in such a way that the consumer has no idea that what they are buying actually had an heartbeat once. Its just a product next to the milk and eggs.
