So my latest craze is AION.  A very WOW like game with better graphics and with less grind than WOW.  It also has aerial combat at the higher levels as your character gets wings and can fly.

I am really enjoying playing it.  I am on Kaisinel server and was wondering if anyone else is playing this game?

I considered this just before winter kicked in (thinking that's the time of year for a good MMORPG).

A lot of people were saying that solo'ing after about 25 is pretty difficult, so I decided against it.
(I managed to solo one char up to over 50 in WoW last year)
It looked fantastic though.

I'll tell you soon as I have a character at level 26 at the moment and I am soloing him alot.  It hasn't been a cake walk since 25 but with the right gear and a few pots and other buffs it ain't impossible "so far".  My daughter plays AION as well and she has a healer so we often team up.

PVP is excellent and a lot better than WoW. In WoW the characters weren't balanced so a Rogue could stun you to death and you never got a shot in against him.  This was particularly the case for me as there is a very slight lag due to my location so far from the US Servers. I always struggled at PVP in WoW and I didn't like the corpse camping etc that went on.  The attitude of the players sucked.

So far in Aion I have enjoyed the PVP and my level 20 Chanter even has 4 PVP kills.

I didn't doubt that it'd improve (iirc it's huge in Korea or Taiwan)..maybe it's a game for next winter.

..now that I come to think of it, a season you are just starting to slide toward..

Seriously though, what the fecks the point of soloing in an MMPORG ?

To get high enough in level to be of value in a real group for group raids etc.

The real multiplayer stuff in all these sorts of games is at the higher level.  Having said that I do party up whenever I get the chance.

I found last night that I am struggling to level my assassin at level 19 as he relies on backstabbing which you really can't do solo as the target keeps turning to face you.  So the assassin needs someone else there to distract the target but repetedly hitting it.  He can then get around the back and do his thing.

On the other hand my Chanter (a combat priest) and my Sorcerer are both levelling fine at levels 22 and 26.

I couldn't be arsed getting dragged around with a group all the time so I solo'd 90% of it.
A group will expect you to be involved for hours at a time, but I'd get bored after an hour and go and watch TV for a while.

(An hour is probably as long as I'll play on most games, the only recent exception to this was Fallout 3)

I hardly ever watch TV but I can game for hours at a time.

I just cancelled my account, way too grindy and no point playing solo all the time.
