I am thinking about buying a new card.

Fed up with ATI since my x850xt started playing up. Also wanted a dx10 card but don't have much more than £150 to spend.

So i was thinking about the 8600gts overclocked version coming in about £125

any suggestions welcome.

[edit] I don't wish to sound like an arrogant fuck, but i need a few replies before 12, because I've had a few beers and if i don't make a decision tonight i won't have the balls to spend the cash when I'm sober. flee tongue2

Don't bother with the 8600 range.

Seriously, that's my suggestion.  The ROS are scaled down too much from the higher cards to much and render the whole point of DX10 useless, regardless of the oc, granted BFG are supposedly the only company atm to be able to clock the ROS, but even at that the performance ain't that greatly increased.

You would be best to wait and save more money.

Rasterized Output Shader I think. Basicly it's the architecture that's the fundamental change from traditional shader architecture to the the dx10.

8600 have rows of 16 I think, 32 are needed AFAIK to be powerfull enough to play DX10 as it;s meant to be seen.

TBH I will look up the article for you tomorrow and be more precise.

ROP's   my mistook.

The 8600 will perform good on dx9 just not great on 10, at least it's an option if you are prepared to drop the res etc.

The Wii is a bit gimmicky though, and the sat nav only really comes into it's own when you have to find lots of specific addresses each day (multi map or the AA site are fine for one offs..and there's also Google Maps for your mobile phone).

I never spend more than £150 on a card. It's tempting but i don't play my PC often enough to warrant the outlay.
