Need help to get my installation activated. I used my disc from my old (dead) Dell laptop to reinstall the OS on my desktop but now I have 24 days to activate. I really don't think MS will activate if I called them - any Ideas?

Major computer manufacturers, such as Dell, use SLP or system-locked-preinstall. SLP takes the place of product activation on Dell machines.  So, if a Dell OEM version of Windows XP is not installed on a Dell computer containing a Dell motherboard, the license becomes invalid. Someone here might know of a "work around".  Wink

little over a year old - fried it - but I ordered it specifically with XP

In the past when ever I tried to use a factory disc if it wasn't reading info from the bios that ID it as a dell or whatever it wouldn't even install. so I was reallly suprised it worked
