I was stingy and stuck to 2gb. I cannot honestly see myself upgrading now though. Not much reason to. I'm kind of getting the "if it aint broke" mentality.

You'll be able to compete with Keasy then at Tetris with mega smooth gameplay  Wink

Joking apart, I'm sure its only the minority of games that want more technically, but more will certainly smooth things in general, rather than directly increasing say fps performance.

Some of the really heavy games do use system RAM to bolster the video RAM on the card, particularly if it's a paltry 512MB version.

When my 8800GTX broke the manufacturers replaced it with a 9800GTX. Cool, eh? No. The 9800GTX was essentially an 8800 GTX Ultra but with 512MB RAM instead of the 768MB on my 8800. Result, I had to lower the graphics quality in GTA:SA. This game in particular loaded scenes into the card and the lower the RAM available the smaller pieces of scene could be loaded at any one time.

Thats interesting Glam as I went from a 8800GTX to a 9800GTX but didnt really think about the RAM at the time.  Not one of my better moves as it was really side ways, though I did find it quieter and cooler.   But yeah bit silly on my part lookin back.   facepalm

And played its part in deciding that my current card, a 5850, would be a 1GB model. No RAM issues with that.  Cool

 Cool

Yep I was happy to go for even more than 1GB tbh when I moved to the 480.  Reviews may say negligible difference at 1080P, but I know the odd game does make use of it - and yep you guessed it, Empire is one of them  smile

This has to be a bargain.
I'm already putting my shopping list together for Feb and this is on it.

Yep, very good - I saw those recently at £80!  Novatech are the one shop I can actually travel too.  Pretty decent company.

Btw I've owned those sticks in the past.  No probs, though they run quite hot - nothin bad like, but on the warm side they were (dont believe the heat spreaders are that great)...I had no issues with stability  smile

Yes, Novatech are very efficient and they have some good kit.
My bro lives between Glos and Bristol and they have a depot in Bristol for collections which is ace.
