And this is the point in threads like this on other forums where a new poster joins the thread and says......... "Hey, does anyone know a good graphic card I can get, I want one better thant the one I have?" I thought you had a good video card. 'Sides, you is a rich man! So, spend some of that stashed gold from that legendary rivet you are so keen to show the young men.

Annd women and I do have a good video card but every thread needs its anoying poster so I thought I would just fill the gap on this one. Just trying to be unhelpful.

I'm not in the market for a new card anyway. The 5770 I put in the new build does everything I need it to do for the moment and it doesn't sweat much either. I only use benchmarks because I'm a sad bastard and I particularly like the AVP one

If you've not bought, sit on your hands... the 6000 series is due in November.
The 6770 is spec wise is... remarkably similar to the 5870
Really? Wow. Gobsmacked. It's a pity I don't have the budget. I want to splash out on like £300s worth of stuff before the "tax" increase. Don't think I'll have it saved by then.

Also... I use Thoms Hardware stats pages to compare cards. I check the FPS in the resolution I use (1600 by 1200 for example) then the game I play (Crysis for example) and check which card I can afford that gives the highest results. If the card is too new to have any stats, I will not buy it, or wait. I don't want to get a lemon! I can then compare the cost of an ATI or NVidia, or a 5 series to a 4 series. The last decision is, do I get the DX 10 card for £150, or the DX11 for £200... well, you can guess the answer cos I'm a cheap skate!

The 460 is a cracking card. Some folks have been having some gpu utilization issues, but I believe the latest whql (released in past 48hrs) has resolved most of that. Not sure how relevant to the 460 Superclock, but certainly for my overclocked 480, you want to be choosing the cooling solution wisely. After markets will bring down the temps and hopefully reduce noise, but most dump the heat inside the case. My 480 has a Zalman job and is totally silent, runs pretty cool, but relies on a decent case to get rid of the heat... I mean its a friggin 3 slot cooler - never thought I'd end up with one. But hey i remember being shocked at dual slot coolers only a few years ago. EDIT oh yeah and I had to get a PCI holding bracket to stop the board bowing 460's are getting great reviews, for me my only hesitation would be the cooler...

Strangely enough, the temps aren't that excessive. I have mine clocked at 800/1580 running 34c at idle and upwards of 38C to 46/48C under load. I ended up with a Gigabyte model linky with 2 fans that reviewed well. It's not the quietest card. It was also part of combo deal with a OCZ 700 watt psu. It is impressive enough for me, but I have yet to throw anything new at it. I haven't even played anything close to a dx11 game.

Looks nice mate! Crysis should be enough to get her working hard or just throw furmark at her - that would do.

Dont get your point. Its enough to get my gpu utilization up to 100% with all settings maxed and just 4 x aa, even with vsync on it isnt going 60fps Thats at 1920 x 1080, so I still think its a good test. As for cpu, there is no game that puts all my 8 threads on 100%, so not sure what you're getting at...

Yes. But when it first came out, on the same settings, it would be hard to get 15fps on a top end rig.

The 460 marks a re-working of Fermi and it's considerably more efficient than before, so the cooler shouldn't be too much of a problem. Personally, I'd avoid the 470 and 480 these days until Nvidia releases a newer pair of high end cards based on the tweaked Fermi architecture. As it is, they just use too much power and generate too much heat for my liking when compared to ATI's higher-end brethren. And that's before we even consider ATI's impending Radeon 6xxx range. The 460 is a good card though and is the only Fermi card at the moment that I would seriously consider buying.

Fair enough, but by architecture change/re-working, you really mean cut down and trimmed. My 480 is cool and silent, it just took a right big fuck off cooler to achieve Better than my 5870 in the end though In both a fps way and importantly a driver way too. But yeah I get where you're coming from. Not sure I'll ever return to ATI. Its not that I didnt love my 5870, its just there are some driver issues that in the end simply annoyed the hell out of me. And they hadn't bothered fixing it in friggin years (since release of Vista). I enjoyed my time with ATi, but was glad to get back to Nvidia drivers.
