I usually find that anything near a 20 ping makes you a much better player online. I usually go for the lowest ping possible. I do often play with pings in the 60 to 100s. I still do OK until I play against someone who is sitting on the server.

It looks good, how many times did you run it? ..-edit- don't think it'll matter, looks like a top drawer line you have.

Tis decent enough. Line quality is far more important though and you have a decent line quality, packet loss would be a larger worry than a single round trip ping. Latency is far more important. Latency is the same as ping but ping tends to be referred to as the round trip where as latency is considered the time each hop takes to receive a full packet and forwarded it the next hop. All hops combined is the latency. So if you ping a game server before joining you receive the single return trip ping, probably only a packet or two from your gateway to the server. The server returns the packets which are a tiny amount as single ping and says 'hi this is a good ping'. Then you join the game and the in-game ping rises because it is now on a latent ping where your gateway is sending multi packets to the server which in turn is receiving multiple packets from you and all other players and then returning variable packets in return which are not the same as the round trip ping they are processed server side packets, different to the initially pre game ping. This amounts to in-game ping or latency and is why a game that pinged well, can sometimes turn out to be a laggy experience. This would occur in a low under powered server as it is queueing its processed packets to send to each individual player. That of-course means when ending multi packets it's important to have a good line quality as you don't want any of the latent packets lost. Because there are lots of them compared to the initial round trip ping. I think, that's my understanding of it anyway. It's sort of why these ping test sites are not really a great indication of the in game experience. Anyhoo here's mines.....

Here is mine to Austin. I need to be completely honest here and say that I'm sitting on the main fiber optic trunk. The closer I stay to the main trunk line in picking my location, the better the ping. Most of the time.

Hmmm, I was looking at that sig and my eye spied that Austin was ~50miles. More like 120+ miles. A small difference.

Well home had a better rate 300ms but lost packets, it scored an F for line quality. NZ has the worst netwrok infrustructure for gaming which is why I don't play multiplayer FPSs.

I get better than that hitting BA And this is Tauranga p.s. In the interests of balance Austin and the worst I could find: Hanoi.

Seeing you post that Wooster got me thinking. I wonder about the cable pathways and who controls the bounce. I've done some tracers and seen some insanely recockulous routing to servers on the land bound side. I wonder how bad it is once it hits the sea floor. Check out the cable pathways-> Sea cable map linky

So much traffic passes through the UK to the USA and vice versa that I've heard talk of an agreement to set up some sort of monitoring system in the two countries to prevent attacks.

Tbh, it looks like you need to get yourself a VPN server in the USA and then hop out to the net from there. Looks like you'd be quicker hitting Palmerston by bouncing off the USA first.. You could try it here. http://cyberghostvpn.com/en/surf-anonym.html (and other places) Set up an account, use one of the US servers, connect and run your ping test again. Note: You'd have to run the ping test from the Command Line, if you use PingTest.Net all you'll get is the response between the server you are connected to and the remote server..it won't take the time it takes for you to send traffic to the VPN server in the first place into consideration. Btw, I tried Cyberghost for a free VPN service it's reasonable (Problem with living in Europe is that, chances are, you'll end up of a French or German server, so all your google searches come back as if you were living there (you have to adjust your google settings accordingly).
