Can someone please explain to me why Windows Media Player keeps messing up my computer?
I have run all the anti viruses,anti spywares,stopped progs running that arent necessary,updated wmp,and yet when I have it playing it freezes my laptop,songs jump on it and its driving me mad!
When I put it off everything is fine,it does it on the tower too and I am running two different kinda of os,help would be good

Can someone move this to tech help pls,I accidentally put it here. blush

Wndows media is a pain in the arse.......I use itunes now.

Its a new laptop but the tower is an old one,not got any other problems with the sound,it really is driving me batty

still weird ... hard to deduce what's exactly wrong.
If you go start -> settings -> control panel -> administrative tools, open the event viewer and look into the Application logs do you see any peculiar messages concerning WMP?

I suspect it's not the media player, but corrupted media files that are causing the lock ups.

Try ripping a CD to MP3 with CDex and playing that..

Are you playing them off the HDD or from the CD drive?

If CD drive it may be going out.

none of my codecs are knackered

It'll probably be after she gets back from her holidays now.
The Met Office (UK weather service) couldn't predict the fecking Sun rising imho, yesterday they said that today would be cloudy with sunny spells, in reality it's been pissing down all morning...so no bike ride today.
