Double dip here we come.  Putting loads of people on the dole means they aren't paying taxes, yet the gov are paying for them to look for work.  So you essentially save no money, but fuck a load of people up and put them out of work.

Even giving benefits, and accounting for lost Income Tax, there is no way it is possible that could ever take as much money as their salary. It is from the same place, effectively.

In essence, they could pay 1,387 officers £25-30k (or whatever it is)... or they could pay 1,387 officers £4k of Job Seekers, and other benefits. And take a roughly £2k-£2.5k loss on National Insurance and £4k-6k in Income Tax... which largely can be written off... as they can be essentially classed as paying for themselves with their National Insurance and Income Tax. As whatever they put back in via tax, came out of the public coffers in the first place. They might as well just be paid £21.5k if they were on £30k... and pay no tax or ni.

They've essentially made the decision to make the cost 264 officers, rather than 1387 as you can get 5.25 Job Seekers to every Copper.
