Every now and again FIFA11 seems to crash on the PS3, I don't know if this is down to the PS3 or the disc, seems to play blu-ray movies fine

Is that a disc problem or PS3 problem?

Well if everything else works fine I'd say disc. Unless you've downloaded any addons for it and they've become corrupted on the HDD.

Is it just FIFA?
If everything else is working OK then it could be a bad install or bugs in the game.

Google for FIFA 11 bugs.

I dunno if it is just FIFA, since I don't want to get anymore games. I am mainly trying to use this as part game/movie centre

Is the firmware up to date?

You can check the system files by having it sitting on standby and keeping your finger on the power button until you hear two beeps (sometimes takes a few attempts) and you'll get a menu.

I thought it already had been updated, but that didn't work either, so it is going back to the shop, might as well get a brand new one

My 360 plays x264's straight off the bat as an extender to media centre.

I was considering a PS3 a while back as a media hub, now my 360 plays x264's straight off the bat as an extender to media centre, I'm not so bothered  Cool

I think it was because the unit was heating up even on standby which caused it to keep freezing, not doing it with the brand new unit
