Nice post AF. You made me feel guilty about the "go home" thing. It is a shallow and reactionary statement. I live in Darwin. The early Chinese built Darwin, no doubt. I have helped to write history books on it, (just ask Tiger). I grew up in a town where every kid eats salty-plumbs, dried mangoe, preserved ginger, all that Chinese stuff that people down south have only just started to sample. Unfortunately for the early Chinese in Australia they were treated like dogs. In fact they were treated much worse. They emigrated into a country that had absolutely no tolerance at all. Chinese had no rights as citizens and absolutely no help in any form. What did they do? They assimilated. They worked bloody hard and got on with what they came here for. A better life. I would have to say that a lot of "Chinese" are more Australian than I am. I know many families up here that go back five and six generations.
My original post was directed at new arrivals that think Australia is a place where you can go, get the dole, bring your family in, behave like you have just not left the tirany at home and then proceed to expect the established society to change its customs and ways to accommodate your expectations.
I don't direct my "gohome" thing at any particular race or religion. But i tell you now old mate I will not accept a foreigners view on how this country should be run.

That's interesting in the context of the original post because the Muslims never asked for this ridiculous crap to be implemented regarding the food ban. Sometimes an imposition is perceived rather than actual.

Yeah, you are right Gator. Im mouthing off. This is called the soapbox right?
But seeing I've stuck my mug out I might as well chuck a few more unsubstantiated facts in.
Nativity scenes have disappeared. Muslims don't like them. They don't like it in shopping centres and they don't like it in schools. The second statement is all the crazier because most hard line Muslims have their own schools to which they send their kids. Those little nativity scenes are just something that to me ad flavour to a time of year when we celebrate Christmas. I dont go to church very much but I was baptised as a baby. My wife was baptised, all my kids have been baptised. I make an effort to go to church every Christmas and Easter. I was married in a Church and I have no doubt that when I die my coffin will grace the hall of the same Church.
I understand that there are a lot of people in Australia that find that offensive. A Christian Church and its teachings are just abhorrant to some people. I dont understand why. I am not offended by statues of Budda, in fact I think they are cool. I am not offended by Taoist teachings. The Chinese in Darwin have a beautifull temple at which they find peace.
All this fluffy talk is leading me to the same conclusion. Why does Australia put up with and try to crawl up the arse of radical religious extremists who demand that we think and behave like they do? Are we scarred that if we dont do what we think is "right" by them that they will blow us up? We had a little taste of what can happen in this country with the Cronulla punch up is Sydney.
I will step down from my soap box now in case someone tries to ram a car bomb into me.

I always thought the nativity scene bannage was not to offend non Judaic/Abrahamic religions. Seen as Jesus is the second most important prophet in The Quran/Koran they celebrate Jesus and believe he shall be the leader of Gods good and the defeater of Satan at Worlds End. So the birth of Jesus is important to them too. They just don't believe he died or was resurrected. They believe it was Judas (I think, but defo one of The Twelve) who took the form of Jesus and was crucified.

Yeah OK, you are probably right keasy. Thats what happens with ingrained ideas that people like me have I suppose. Those old traditional ideas are just that . . . old. I do the best to try and teach my kids the difference between wrong and right. And when you really think about it, it is all mind control. I believe in my soul and I believe my kids have got one each. In fact I know that have because they are individuals with completely different personalities. There is something in that, I call it soul. Patch, my dog, on the other hand has no dot at all, the little bastard just broke into next door and raped their mastiff. I am having trouble getting out of that one I can tell you.
