As of yesterday morning my pc has decided to randomly power off when running games. Haven't changed any settings, fiddled with hardware or downloaded anything that could have caused problems.
Any ideas?

Power supply failing? Thermal shutdown?

I'm installing speedfan to look for any anomalies.

As soon as it happens restart immediately, enter BIOS and see what the CPU temp is.

That's how it looks atm. Next time it happens I'll check the BIOS.

That's disgusting. The BIOS was reading 72. Cpu Temp after the latest meltdown. I clocked everything back to default last night and it's still doing it.

Maybe have a look and see if your fans need a wee clean? Or if you have any thermal paste take the heatsink off clean it and reseat it on cpu. Thought I would state the obvious

Fan is spotless, I wouldn't think it'd need a new layer of thermal paste 6 months after it was new.... Idle temp is about 46. It must shoot up past 75 when under load for some reason.

I'll give the new paste a go later. Don't see why it should be baking tbh. It's only Alien Swarm I'm playing.

Do you use any of those mad programmes the motherboard manufacturer supplies ? You know the mad over clocking from within the OS type one ?
Get shot of it if you are, it could be OC'ing your CPU more than is healthy, even when just playing alien Swarm.

Don't use anything like that.
Everything in the BIOS is back to default settings so it's locked at 2.8ghz.

Fuck. The thermal paste I thought I had must have been the one Wooster took away with him. It's idle at 41 degrees just now. Compared to 46 earlier. Strangeeee.

Leave the side of the case off. I took my TC away with me because there's only one application left in it and it's the only one I have left. I used to have some Arctic Silver, but I don't know where it went to.

The side of the case is never on. I never put it on anymore for the fact I'm too lazy to take it off if something needs done. *Edit* After just under 10 mins of Blops online the temp was 65.
