They sound it.
'Pavillion' doesn't tell us much since they use the same name for laptops and desktops.

You could try hooking the first one up to an external monitor via the VGA port, I'm not sure when (it won't display the BIOS) but pressing Fn+F4 usually switches the displays at some point. (It might be a loose display ribbon to the laptop monitor that's causing the problem). Second one, no idea..

HP Pavillion lap tops are notorious for bad power jacks. A model # would help. It's possible that if it hasn't gone too far and killed the mobo, you can pull the mobo out and inspect the area of the mobo where the power jack plugs into. Depending on the model #, some are basically power connectors with electrical connections that can be pulled off and replaced as they are not hard soldered. The other type is soldered in but can be replaced with a reballer station(or a good soldering kit). Search here. These guys are great with laptops. Power jack on HP Pavillion They are part of the Podnutz community. Podnutz laptop repair If you find that the screen is bad vs. the IGP(assuming it doesn't have the notorious Nvidia GPU), you'll find instructions on replacing the screen. There's a guy on there from England that does nothing but reballing of failed components, assuming the price doesn't out weigh the cost of replacement. His name is Lofti and he always jumps in and helps out. He's on TS every night if you sign up and join.

Model number for the first laptop is dv7 and second laptop is dv6000. I forgot to mention that when i first powerd up the dv7 all lights on it flashed continually it was on the second go it powerd up but didnt display anytihing except the dull lines and whats looks to be darker patch in the middle of the screen in the shape of a serial port. probably doesnt help any but it is strange.

Press a torch against that one to see if it really is displaying something, it might just be the CCFL (backlight) that's blown. They can be relatively easy to replace on some laptops.

I would've thought he had checked the lighting. Did you visually inspect the display ribbon in the hinge? Be very careful if you do have to, they're a bitch and a half to pull off. Good luck with it.

Ok, from what i can tell the dv6000 has the power jack solderd onto the mobo. Would the fact that no charging lights come on when its plugged in narrow it down to a bad power jack?? If the mobo was dead could you get a completely dead laptop or would there be atleast some flicker or life?? like a dvd drive make a noise or fans whir or anything?
On the dv7 ALL lights above the keyboard stay on and the dvd drive activates but no fans spin up and nothing displays through an external screen. i also noticed that someone removed the HDD.
So, my conclusion is that both are screwed.
Can i get someone to second that for me?

Stupid question maybe, but have you swapped power bricks and chord from one to the other? I have run a cross a problem where even though there was 19.2v at the jack, the other wiring was fuckered. There is 2(?) extra wires on the charge cable that carry info like battery temp, voltage and the data on whether the charger is actual HP(or battery) or not. If the info isn't communicated because of broken wires, you can get a no charge/no power scenario. On the DV7, have you checked to see if all the cables are seated, since someone's possibly been in it before you had it. Have you slung a known good HD at it to see if it boots? All that is assuming you can get into the BIOS to swap video outputs like Wooster said. Good luck with it.

The cords arnt interchangable between the two laptops so thats that idea out the window. All cables are making good contact on the dv7, i dont have access to a spare HD. I removed the ram modules in the dv7 to force it to give me a beep code and it didnt so im assuming its not even making it to post.
