Trying to copy a folder on server 2008 machine that can get to via the C$ share.  The folder is an SQL data folder and I believe it's constantly in use so getting the annoying "Cannot copy because in use blah blah".

I've looked all over but can't find an easy to use tool to copying this pissing folder.

Looking at hobocopy as it should be able to do what I need as it uses shadow copy to take a snap shot.

But I can't seem to get the commands working.

Anyone got anything better?  Needs to be able to copy files that are in use.

You'd have to kill any process that's using it.

Simple five minute fix is to boot it into Safe Mode, do the dirty via USB, and then restart.
..not my area tbh, but that's the road I'd take in order to buy more time.

You'd have to put the databases on the SQL Server into offline mode I think for it to release the locks on it. No dice for a live DB though.

If you want to copy the databases, I'd suggest backups, then copy those.

Balls, thanks.

Can't take the server down.

Hobocopy is suppose to do what I want and with SQL files because it uses

Volume Shadow Copy
Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider

They take snap shots of files in use, much like proper backup software does when files are in use.

Trouble is, I assume I'd also have to run it from the 2008 server.

Bugger.

Don't think I can be arsed now.
