Gingerbread OS is now being rolled out for the Sony Experia x10. Just flashed Jaki''s from a branded, Orange, firmware to a generic UK one so I could install it sooner. Major improvement to the X10. made even better by installing luancher pro and using that instead of the stock phone UI

I thought gingerbread had already been finalized and pushed out on all the major phones? I guess the carriers can hold up the roll out for longer than necessary. Why the hell do they do that? They could have it out in weeks and stable if there was enough money in it for them. Maybe I'm missing something. Anyways, you'll like it for the part once you strip out all the isp crap. This is my project in the very near future. Dual boot OS. I'm going to use this to try honeycomb, when I find a rom I like for the Droid X. http://lifehacker.com/5826050/how-to-dual-boot-multiple-roms-on-your-android-phone

i've been using gingerbread on my desire for ages, actually running a desire HD port on it now. first rooted my phone way back last year. it was jaki's that hadnt been updated... SE said they weren't going to be issuing gingerbread for the X10 then all of a sudden they made an announcement the other day.. from what i can gather though it started out as a pet project by some of their devs and once se saw what it could do they gave it the go ahead.

I didn't get my X until February of this year. Then it was full on with the root. I've gone through 4/5 different roms trying to find the one I liked and worked right. I settled on Liberty, but I also liked Cyanogen. The UI for Cyanogen just didn't suit me as well as Liberty. That's just as a preference thing though. I like super slim, fast and clean roms. Especially if they don't break the phone.

I didn't like the cyanogen mod for my Desire, it just didn't feel right or look or look too hot imo. Like you I've tried a pile of them trying to find one I like, currently using Leedroid's DesireHD port which is brilliant. Mind you in a few weeks time I'll be looking for something else just because I can lol.

1.9.3 is the most recent SMF approved one. There's a 2.0.0 version out, but no word from SMF about it yet. p.s. Cheers for the heads up.

A couple good iPhone apps NavFree - gps, real time, no need for 3G internet access i.e. doesn't use up your internet allowance like google maps. I think this is available for android phones, though don't quote me if it isn't. It is also free TubeMap - although I know most of the London tube network, I still have it for real-time info, again, free

Couple of good apps I use are Camscanner, http://amzn.to/o2crHP and Wifi Analyzer, http://amzn.to/gQ3pKW. Both are free and nice. Camscanner works nicely with converting images to pdf and making alterations. I use it for storing business cards, but it does so much more. Wifi analyzer is a full fledged network and strength analyzer. There's too much there for the short story. Check them out. Sent by Droid X while sniping squirrels from my roof.

Dolphin HD
Much less laggy with the keyboard than the default browser on the Transformer. Though it doesn't like the hundreds of gifs on this page very much actually. Much beter than stock overall though, plugins, etc. Can get a lite version as well for phones, as the HD one is for tablets.
Photoshop Touch
Very nice touch interface on this one, much better than Photoshop Express. It's about £7 though, but is alright for editting on a tablet. Layers, some filters, only a few basic features are missing but they could get added later I suspect.
Chu Chu Rocket
An old Dreamast game where you have to get mice, into spacerockets and avoid cats. Simple fun, and free on GetJar. 67p on the market. Battlemode i suspect might be very difficult on a smartphone, on a tablet it's fine though.
Wyse Pocketcloud
Very good RDP,VNC and VMWare Viewer app. There is a free version that only supports one computer. I used it to connect to multiple virtual machines, and it's very slick. I believe the full version is about a tenner, but if you connect to enough computers on the move, definately worth the pro version.
SetCPU [ROOT]
Allows you to overclock and underclock the CPU based on profiles. I set it to underclock the processor between 2am and 8am, and it saves much battery. Same as you can give it the full beans when charging, and also set lower power settings when running low on battery. Almost single handedly a reason to root a phone, and one reason I want to root this tablet.
SSHTunnel [ROOT]
Another fantastic reason to root. This allows you to, if you are Linuxly inclined like myself, route all traffic to a server of your choice. It is encrypted to boot. Very nice if you are not sure about some of the wireless hotspots you might connect to. Though, I do not use free wifi because it normally does not work, if I'm honest. Can use it over your 3G or Wifi. A winner.
Got a few other apps I like for security purposes. A port of nmap, connectbot for SSH, Keepass Droid (password locker).
Also Sonic CD is rather excellent

Credit to Cricky https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.viber.voipUse WiFi for calls/texts instead of your mobile network. (If I wasn't using a company phone I'd be all over this)
