Never been an SNP voter. But I reckon I will be this time around. Seems to me that Salmond is the only guy actually fit to take the role on ? I can hand on heart say that no other Scottish Parliamentary leader has the same presence as him. Seems daft as te minute he retires the sNP will be in the dark again as same as the last time when Sweeney (sp) was leader and they had to recall Salmond from West Minster to be significant in the public eye...in other words no cunt knew who ?Swinney was. I'm so tempted to use my vote on SNP but the fact tat without Salmond they really would have no other knowns to the masses that it worries me. Fuck, it's worth a punt. SNP it is then

I'm going the other way. Lifelong SNP supporter but getting fucked off with salmond being all about personality than substance. Seriously not happy about this new forth crossing which, imo, is more about salmond leaving his mark than for the benefit of the country. We'll be in debt up to our eyeballs for years to come and other services like education etc will be worse off for it
Labour for me this time around

What's the alternative to a new bridge though ? The current one would cost more in the long run to maintain and it would eventually collapse would it not ?

No.. it can be repaired at a much cheaper cost. 2.3 billion quid to replace the bridge plus costs to demolish the old one. And rememeber, thsi is scotland where estimated costs soon get left behind and real costs soon spiral out of control... just look at the parliament building. Youre looking at 122 million to repair the existing one.. its a no brainer the 2.3 biillion is being borrowed on the strength of scotlands future budgets so basically for years to come we'll be paying it off. You, your kids and make no mistake other budgets will suffer for it. Less money for education, the NHS in scotland, roads and building works... Salmond is a showman and a total personality and this bridge is more to do with his ego than whats good for the country. The twat wants to be able to say.... see that bridge.. i built that wi his wee fat smug smile and he doesnt give a fuck about how its going to affect the rest of us for years.
Like I said.. lI'm a life long SNP man but enoug is enough

Mind you he can always amke up the shortfall in other budgets by hammering us with the local income tax... the tax he went to the high court, to get an injunction at the taxpayers expense, to stop the facts being published just before the election... makes you wonder tbh

They're due to start digging up the anchorages for inspection this year, so no-one knows what the real cost of repair would be yet. ..for all anyone knows it could be worse than expected and the bridge would have to close by the end of the decade, but we just don't know and we've run out of time to make a decision. If they delayed any more then we could be stuck with the Kincardine bridges and the A9 north of Stirling as the only alternative routes north.
Approval for the plan was also a cross party affair, and the committee set up to create the bill consisted of a member from each of the main party's (two from Labour if you count Mary Mulligan, Labour MSP for Linlithgow).

The tax question places a fly in the ointment for sure.
But Iain Grey ? C'mon....the guys even more of a twat than Salmond with his smug smile. I'd hate to think that's the top face of politics in Scotland. Labour First ministers are extensions of London Labour anyway IMHO.
Strange, I've been a Labour man all my voting days and even before I was a lefty, now I'm thinking SNP and Tricky has done exactly the opposite.

If there's any doubt that the bleating over the costs is more about politics than about practicality, it's worth bearing in mind that it was approved by 108 votes to 3 with no abstentions. Given the three against were the two Green Party members and one Liberal Democrat, it's a bit rich of Labour to start complaining about the cost when every single one of them voted to approve it. We will deliver the new Forth Replacement Crossing. This is a vital project to safeguard an essential link in the country’s transport network and will be the largest infrastructure project in a generation. So how is voting Labour going to make a blind bit of difference? And as far as the costs spiralling out of control goes, let's not forget it was a Labour plan to implement the Edinburgh Tram system that has gone so far over budget that all work on it stopped for a number of months because of costs. When the SNP published plans to cancel it in 2007 along with the Edinburgh Airport rail link (which they did cancel) to save £1.1Bn, Wendy Alexander denied that the costs were out of control. ..she couldn't have been more wrong. Even after dramatically cutting back on the scale, the estimated cost is still going to be in the region of £700 Million.

Maybe they did... but the fact of the matter is that the current bridge can be repaired at a fraction of the cost of a new build, its already been done on about 16 bridges worldwide.. not only that.. the bridge they want to build isnt even the cheapest option.

See my edit. A vote for Labour isn't a vote against the building of the bridge.

Hmmmmm
one day to go and now I'm doubting the SNP. Their alike to the Tories on state run services including the NHS and that pisses me off. Salmond done a good job on fooling us that the NHS is protected but it isn't really in predictive terms. He's letting nurses go without replacing them and NHS beds are simply lying empty because the nurses and doctors positions are not being filled.
Okay he didn't create the crisis either but him and Sturgeon are big on making the NHS one of their key highlights and frankly, they've been taking the piss and they certainly had me fooled.
Time for a quick rethink from me anyway.
I reckon I'm just going to exercise my rights and leave it at that, just keep my ballot completely schtoom. I may tell my wife.

I think they're all playing it cagey over plans for the NHS, even the rise in VAT and NI has put a dent in the budget. (A third of Holyrood's total budget is spent on the NHS already)

Well I voted SNP first on the Constituency paper and Labour on the regional. Yeah, I'm only slowly easing towards SNP, I went for the balance One thing was for sure even had I wanted to vote Labour in the Constituency vote I couldn't have or rather I wouldn't have and didn't because the candidate is John Pentland the biggest prick of a small time politician ever. The same guy that wouldn't help our mate out when he was without water for 2 weeks. Pentland told him he was a busy man and that there was nothing he could do and there was nothing could be done. Funny that because I gave my wee mate a call on the phone who is a local district councillor and he got it sorted for him within 24 hrs, a man with half the power and resources at his disposal. CUNT! It felt good denying him my vote.
