AD, Group and Distribution Lists

Maybe a simple question but never really done them before.
Have a group in AD. Want to make a distribution list out of it so can send an e-mail to All Users. Do I need to mail enable this group to be able to create the distribution list? Once mail enabled how do you go about creating the DL?

been a while since i did any of that stuff but don't you create your DL's in Exchange (or whatever) then add the AD groups or individual users to it?
assuming your mail server and AD server are in the same domain and exchange can see the AD OK.
