Did you run the .exe as an administrator?

I managed to install BF1942 without any major problems.

explore  the cd drive /disk then  right click and select "trouble shoot compatibility '. if this doesn't work then do the same but choose 'admin privileges ' The problem comes from older games saving data to the 'my programs ' folder and windows 7 locking it out. Now games save to my documents or a virtual / sandboxed folder .

Explore the disk, look for the installer .exe, right click on it and select Run As Administrator.

As TB said, troubleshoot compatibility is well worth a bash.  smile

I've been using 7 since the RC days and never had any major issues mate.  scratchhead

Older games might need the old DX runtime libraries to work and I installed the pack in this link for that.

Let's Google that shall we?
AFAIK The silent hunter series has Ubisofts worse DRM. Making it unplayable on any system. It got more protection than a german u-boat. Why they think it needs it is beyond me.

Is UAC disabled?
I know you're installing as Admin, but if UAC is still on it might have an effect.

Control Panel>User Accounts>Change User Account Control Settings.

I suspect that DRM would be causing the Silent Hunter problem. DRM solutions tend to have a habit of breaking when a new OS is released.
