They are thinking of making it law, so army families are taken care of.  One military man as well said they should maybe given first treatment in situations.

I'm not sure I agree.  It maybe a noble and brave profession being a soldier but it's your choice.  The police, firemen/women etc don't get first treatment over everyone else just because of their job, so why should a soldier?  If you're forced into the war like they were in WW1 and WW2 then fair enough, but when you decide for yourself that you want to be a soldier then it was, at the end of the day, your choice, you knew the risks.

Police, fire fighters etc don't spend all their waking life's on constant duty and get paid better too. A typical grunts wage is a pathetic salary for what they do, expecting decent treatment if injured and the solace of knowing your family is taken care of should you pay the ultimate sacrifice is little in way of compensation and ultimately will make better soldiers IMO.

I reckon it's a fair enough proposal...although it may not even go through, the core conservatives are angry at Cameron even attempting to push it through.

Aye it seems to be one of those agreements that it's OK to talk about, but not to expect the Government to honour if cash is involved.

If it's entered into law then they'll have to honour it.
...still this is the Tories, there must be a catch somewhere. Wink

I haven't really got a big problem with it.  But still feel a soldier chooses his career.  I don't believe it's a sacrifice because it was a choice.  But I still think they should get paid a lot more than they actually do, at least danger money.
