Does anybody have any experience (good or bad) running HDMI over these little fellas?

http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/19515971/Cable-Tex-HDMI-Extender-Over-LAN-CAT-5-6-100M-480p-50m-1080P/Product.html?_%24ja=tsid:11518|cat:19515971|prd:19515971

I'm thinking about moving my PS3 up into the loft, becasue the fan noise does my head in.

The Tesco HomePlus stores use a lot of these for their HDTV displays, it seems to work for them.
They're short runs through, since the cabinet that holds the matrix splitters is through the wall from the displays, so I don't know how well they work on long runs.  scratchhead

iirc High Speed HDMI is good for a 20m run, but the cable would cost more than the converters you linked to. confused

£18

How much cable is it you need Stevie ?
Though those wee Ethernet to hdmi things are useful to have.

Cheaper but only 30m.

I'm sure we'll have 10 or 15M of Cat6e knocking around in the scrap pile.

Why not just buy a 10m HDMI cable...bit cheaper than the Ethernet option ?

For less than 10m cat 5e would probably do to get 1080p (other similar products dont make that distinction), you would probably need to get pre-made cat6 patch leads or install a dual outlet both ends to meet the full cat6 spec. I would just go for the longer HDMI cable Keasy linked to.

I'm sure we'll have 10 or 15M of Cat6e knocking around in the scrap pile.

We do have plenty lying about but only have cat5e plugs to put on both ends so wouldnt meet cat6 speed.

Problem is that the holes in my walls are only big enough to take thin cables. (running up the back of my house to the eaves, and into the loft from there.

I don't want to widen them to fit the head of an hdmi cable.

For £20 I might chance it with cat5

I thought we still had some Cat6 modules lying around.. confused

If the TV is downstairs and the PS3 is in the loft, how are you going to control it from the living room?
And if it's for media, then why not play the movies through the PC which, if memory serves, is already in the loft?

If you have a windows based mobile, or can get your hands on an old PDA, then you can use GRemote over a wifi connection to control the PC with a cloned desktop display on the TV.

(Works on Android phones as well, and chances are they'll have something similar for the iPhone)

The Bluetooth controller should reach the loft.

I do already use the pc in the loft for media, I want to move the ps3 because the fan noise is a pain in the tits. It's cooler up there so probably wouldn't even kick in.
