Every time I hear 'Special Relationship' in relation to UK/US relations, it makes me cringe to the core and they've even got the queen doing it now.
It makes us sound like some kind of fawning retards who need this delusion maintained in order to make us feel better about ourselves..
No-one these days can be under any illusion that the USA, quite rightly, takes care of itself first, and this special relationship is nothing more than a political myth.
Personally I think it's a desperate attempt by the Tory party at currying favour from some deluded sections of society who are prone to believe this particular kind of claptrap.

Your putting words into my mouth. I hated the term when Labour used it as well, but I'm talking about current affairs, not history. Even some elements of the press and the political pundits they hire are getting a bit sick of it, but Cameron had to shoehorn it in again. |
