Iv been given a Dell XPS thats had the sata hdd replaced and vista 32bit put on it. now it hangs at the windows loading logo, then stops, flickers to bluescreen and reboots. booted to safemode and it stops at crcdisk.sys and reboots. So googled it "CRCDISK.SYS identifies itself as a "Disk Block Verification Filter Driver" and was written by Microsoft. Presumably, it does some kind of CRC checking on data being read off the disk". There have been a few instances of this but no solutions.

When vista did boot it wouldnt install any updates. i looked at fixes for this, editing registry Hkey_local_machine->Compnents or something but the keys that your supposed to delete arnt there in the first place. Tried doing a repair with the vista CD and it says there are no problems. Tried finding up to date drivers for the new HDD but cant find any for Vista 32bit, just XP and 7.

Any ideas?

The only other thing i can think of is installing XP pro or something for him instead, but would that cause problems with future updates or accessing the internet as it wouldnt be, well, a purchased OS

EDIT
Removed Wi-Fi card and now the fan isnt going mental and its not getting really hot on the mouse pad thats over the Wi-Fi compartment. Its also booting properly.

Have you tried the second answer on there?

Worried he "found that by accident" though... just randomly deleting system files ftw!!

Theres defo an issue with the wifi, but still wouldnt install any updates. SFC found issues but wouldnt fix them. Deleted crcdisk.sys and selected start up repair from the Vista disc and it didnt find a problem so i went with a clean install and now it still wont accept any updates  scratchhead

I have Vista Readyness tool and Service Pack 1 and 2 on a usb key so no internet required for those installes and it wont accept them either.

Edit: Wait i tell a lie, its flyin it. half way through Service pack 2.
