In a small office network running a DNS server, if the FQDN John1.sales computer was set to use dynamic IP addressing, what happens to the record on the DNS server for it?

Does the DNS just get updated with the new IP whenever an IP changes?

I think there's a tickbox setting somewhere in your adapter settings that says something along the lines of

"register this connection's address in DNS"

So when you get a new IP it should send and update to the dns server.
