Is a cisco router emulator (not a simulator) you need valid IOS to use it and it needs a hefty pc to run several instances.

If you're into networking, or studying, it's essential. You can even hook it up to a real network by mapping your PC ethernet ports to virtual router interface.s Also does multilayer switching (to a degree) and basic switching.

google dynamips.

shit hot bit of software and it's free.

Much cheaper than buying a couple of routers - which was what I had to do back in the day.

I bought a couple of Cisco 2501's and all the accessories before the tech meltdown.  Tried to sell them after the tech meltdown and the value had gone down so much that I finally just gave them to a friend who was studying for his CCNA.

I seem to rember that the cable alone was like $150...

My motto:  Buy high - sell low!

We keep getting sent 3560's for sites that have already been kitted out...I'm severely tempted.
(We also have piles of 3Com 24 port numbers but they are worth feck all)

depending on exact model of 3560.. may be multilayer switch, in which case is worth megabucks.

I did pass my CCNA exam - and then took a programming job and over the years have forgotten most of the networking stuff.  Now I am doing data warehousing/business intelligence -  it's not bad, but I've considered going back to networking.  I have kids now, so i'll probably just stick with the current safe stuff.

I'd heard that a lot of people were pissed lossing so much in stock options in the tech meltdown and took it out on the equipment - or rather took out the equipment.  I would guess that ebay would be where it would end up.

Well there's more money in programming. In Scotland anyway.

I like my networking though.
