I've been upgrading the ATI drivers ever since I built the machine last May, without uninstalling the old drivers without any problems, even though I knew this strategy may end up in tears one day.
Upgraded to 11.6 and that's when the problems began. No access to any of the Catalyst  functions at all and no noticeable improvement in anything.
Swept the whole lot away and rolled back to 10.2, which never gave me any problems whatsoever.

Why didn't you sweep everything away and install 11.6?

Driver ping pong! I'm glad to not have to play that game. They've been around for too long and have to good of a GPU to have that issue. They need to steal Nvidia's play book in the drivers department and go with a UDA.

I tried that and it was still buggy.
CCC wouldn't even launch.

The release notes mention that .NET Framework SP1 is a requirement for CCC to launch. I've run into the same issue before myself.  confused

In saying that, most (all?) of the improvements in this release are for the 6xxx series cards.
Still the 10.2's are a good 14 months old (10.2=2010.Feb) so it might be worth looking out something a bit more up to date like the 10.12's or 11.1's.  blush

-edit- Oh the irony. The 11.6 installer just BSOD'd me when I was removing the 11.5's.  laugh

I'll probably ease up bit by bit, but for the time being, things are nice and stable on my 5770.
I have the .NET V4.0, which I believe is the latest release scratchhead
I find these driver suites are just getting more and more bloated with stuff I either don't need or will never use. A bit like installing one of the latest HP all in one printers..............takes fucking hours, unless you can get hold of the 'driver only' software.
LOL at the bsod.................oops sorry...

 tongue2

On the drivers page for your OS and card there's a Previous Drivers link, I'd browse through them and check the link for the Release Notes that's just above the full driver suite entry.
There's bound to be one that gives you a wee bit extra. Cool

I've been persistently installing over the top since I got my ATi card and never run into a single issue with em... since August 2009? Whenever the 5870 came out, anyhoo.

There's an uninstaller included in the installer anyway, I just run that.
