One of my 2 (SLI) 8800GTs has died.
Checks done... Switched the cards around Ran each card alone - faulty one does not give a display or boot Ran each card alone in each slot - same as above
So, I will donate my good 8800GT to my parents along with my E6600 rig.
That means I need a replacement card/cards. Limit is £200ish.
What do you guys recommend - as always what you say goes!

Take a look at the 560 ti. It's a good card for the money also. It really boils down to which one performs best for the games you play.

Soz Tom, I was out this evening. I got your message at work, (yay, 57 hour week ftw).
I'd go ATi at the moment. Even though nVidia have caught up. Graphics cards dying just isn't cool, and I got a bit burnt (almost literally) by my GTS's basically melting thanks to an inherent nVidia fault.
6870 is a good card (though, a 5870 is often quicker, depending on tesselation basically). Not really looked at the 69xx series though.
ATi drivers aren't nearly as crap as their reputation of crapness is. In fact the only graphics driver crashes I've had are due to Flash, rather ironically, being massively shite.

I think ATI's problem is trying too hard with the drivers and trying to stick to their monthly release schedule, and any problems are compounded by people not reading the release notes to see if it's even worthwhile updating them, given the card they are using. (It takes less time to browse through the RN's than it does to install the driver package.)

So. Is the decision to plump for keasy's recommendation?
As I say, you lot have pretty much built all my PCs so far.

That card I posted uses the same GPU as the 6970's mate with features locked out so as to bring it down in price to compete with nVidia who don't or didn't have any competition with ATi/AMD at the same price. So in essence like most cards that get locked out you can hack it and get a full blown 6970. And here is the very thing.... http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=335318You don't even need to in all honesty and it does carry a risk. But when the cards getting long in the tooth it would be well worth a bash then.

If they were registered they might be alright... my 8800GTS's got binned after they died though
I suspect they are close to that age... I've had my 5870 for nearly two years, and I had my 8800GTS SLI for over a year before they unceremoniously blew up.
